To Fly Elsewhere

To Fly Elsewhere, Mixed-Media on Arches, 12" x 9"

'I had wanted to show a bird not softly moving his arms and body as if poised for some gracious but meaningless flight (as all the Kirov's dancers had done before) but a bird tense with a strong desire to really fly away, see the world, and break loose from known, familiar surroundings....I wanted to show a bird tempted by a mysterious enticement to fly elsewhere.'

- Rudolf Nureyev, describing his interpretation of The Blue Bird from the ballet, 'The Sleeping Beauty'.*
